Municipal Construction Observer The Township of Maplewood in Essex County is looking for an individual to conduct construction observation and construction administration duties for its various capital projects, this person will report to the Township Engineer's office. Individual will perform the following, but not limited to, tasks: attendance at preconstruction meetings, observation of ongoing construction work, preparation and coordination of change orders, preparation of inspection reports, preparation of payment recommendations, preparation of punch lists and preparation of as-built plans. Work to be observed includes road projects, site plans, road openings, sidewalk construction, sanitary and storm sewer installation, monitor traffic control operations, building interior and exterior construction. Person will also assist the Engineering Department by inspecting stormwater systems throughout the Township for compliance with its Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program. Individual must have a clear understanding of the construction process and have the ability to ensure contractors are following contract documents and specifications to determine if errors are being made in the construction. Person must have excellent customer service skills and be able to deal with the public in a professional manner when meeting them in the field on projects. Individual should be detail oriented, organized, have basic computer skills in programs such as Word and Excel, CAD experience is a plus, must have a valid NJ driver's license, and should have at least 10 years' experience in construction observation, construction administration, or engineering. This position is a part time position for 25 hours per week, from April till November annually, the hourly rate will be $22-$25 per hour, and the position does not include any benefits.
